Newdrain1The Stormwater Maintenance Division provides maintenance and repair of the City’s storm water conveyance system to meet the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program. The Section implements a comprehensive inventory, cleaning, inspection and repair of all City owned flood control basins, channels, ditches, pipes and storm drain related infrastructure.

Draftingflood1Street Maintenance Division are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of City of Encinitas’ public drainage system that is above ground. The work includes biannual inspection and cleaning of all City storm drains, cleaning debris and clearance of drainage systems after storm events and preventing standing water issues in City right-of-way areas. Wastewater Maintenance personnel are responsible for maintaining the City’s underground storm drain system. This consists of cleaning and maintaining 1,789 storm drain boxes and approximately 65 miles of underground pipes.

In addition to the field operations, the Public Works Department’s Environmental Management Division is responsible for reporting and public outreach related to the NPDES permit program. If you have questions about outreach, please contact: (760)-633-2787.

Sandbags

sandbagThe City of Encinitas’ Public Works Department will host a Sandbag give-a-way event from 8:30am-2:00pm at the Public Works facility at 160 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas, CA. 92024. Check the City Calendar for upcoming events. Sandbags will be available per event to Encinitas residents (no contractors) on a first come, first serve basis.

Residents must provide photo identification and show proof of residency. A water bill or electric bill is acceptable, which shows the customers address. Please check-in at the front counter. 10 sandbags will be given for each address/property (while supply lasts). Residents must self-load and transport the sandbags. The City does not provide this service.

Sandbags are no longer be offered daily at the Public Works facility.

Sandbags may be purchased at local vendors. Please call vendors directly for the latest information on availability and pricing. The following is an example of some vendors who may offer sandbags for purchase:
