About our Parks

Encinitas parks are second to none. The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 150 acres of developed and undeveloped parks, including 19 unique community parks, three sports parks, a world-class skatepark and off-leash dog park and some of the best playgrounds anywhere in the County. Below, you will find a complete listing of Encinitas' parks and park amenities.

Dog Park Spring Improvements

The Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park at Encinitas Community Park will be closed for turf renovations, grounds maintenance and general repairs from April 29 to May 26. Maintenance improvements will include turf repairs, mulching, drainage upgrades and new plantings. During the closure period, please enjoy off-leash dog hours at: Olympus Park Dog Park, Encinitas Viewpoint Park, Orpheus Park, Sun Vista Park, and Mountain Vista Trail

Sports Fields and Dog Park Rain Closures - City sports fields (except Leo Mullen Sports Park artificial turf soccer field) may be closed during weather events. They will reopen as conditions improve.

The Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park at Encinitas Community Park may be closed during weather events. The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department will reopen the park as soon as conditions improve.

General Information

Park hours are dawn to dusk except for permitted event or unless stated otherwise. Beach parking and amenities hours are 5am - 10pm. Beach is closed 2am - 4am. Please no glass containers, polystyrene food containers or smoking allowed at City parks, beaches and trails. Dogs must be on a leash at all times unless otherwise noted.

All parks are available on a first come, first served basis. Special Event and Special Ceremony Permits are available for select locations (see specific site information below).
