On January 17, 2024, the Encinitas City Council adopted Ordinance 2023-07, adding Chapter 9.85 - Shopping Cart Ordinance to the Encinitas Municipal Code.  The Shopping Cart Ordinance has been developed around a framework of shared responsibility including the City of Encinitas, community members, and Shopping Cart Owners to prevent abandonment of shopping carts and related impacts. 

ATTENTION SHOPPING CART OWNERS: 
Please note that a Shopping Cart Containment Plan, as required in Section 9.85.090 of the Shopping Cart Ordinance, must be submitted to the City of Encinitas on or before March 18, 2024
Submittals should be e-mailed to:  shoppingcarts@encinitasca.gov

A Shopping Cart Containment Plan form is available for download, and may be used to satisfy Shopping Cart Owner obligations as defined in the Shopping Cart Ordinance.
