On January 17, 2024, the Encinitas City Council adopted Ordinance 2023-07, adding Chapter 9.85 - Shopping Cart Ordinance to the Encinitas Municipal Code.  The Shopping Cart Ordinance has been developed around a framework of shared responsibility including the City of Encinitas, community members, and Shopping Cart Owners to prevent abandonment of shopping carts and related impacts. 

ATTENTION SHOPPING CART OWNERS: 
Please note that a Shopping Cart Containment Plan, as required in Section 9.85.090 of the Shopping Cart Ordinance, must be submitted to the City of Encinitas on or before March 18, 2024.

A Shopping Cart Containment Plan form is available for download, and may be used to satisfy Shopping Cart Owner obligations as defined in the Shopping Cart Ordinance.
