Encinitas Launches “Safe Beach Day” App for Beachgoers

Real-Time Beach Conditions Now Available at Your Fingertips

Post Date:05/07/2024 10:00 AM

Encinitas, CA, May 07, 2024 – The City of Encinitas has partnered with Watch Tower, a lifeguard reporting system, to provide real-time beach conditions to the public through an application named Safe Beach Day.

Safe Beach Day shows current weather and surf conditions, water temperature, which lifeguard towers are open or closed, safety alerts including weather, water quality, stingray activity, and tides. The information on Safe Beach Day is updated in real-time and automatic.

“Encinitas is a world-class beach city, hosting a multitude of recreational and relaxing beach activities,” said Encinitas Marine Safety Captain David Brown. “Hosting an application which allows the public to view conditions from their home computer or their handheld devices will enhance the public’s beach experience.”

“Protection of the public is our Division’s number one priority, which we attempt to do through education and prevention,” Brown added. “Safe Beach Day provides the opportunity for the public to ‘know before they go’ and make sound decisions about their beach activities based on their skills and abilities as well as current beach conditions.”

The public can access Safe Beach Day in a variety of methods:

  • Safe Beach Day QR codes are located on each lifeguard tower, and at the Moonlight Beach Marine Safety Center and the Swami’s Lifeguard tower
  • Information for Encinitas and other coastal beach areas are available at safebeachday.com
  • Through the MyEncinitas mobile app and City website
