PROJECT STATUS

Construction officially commenced on February 12, 2024, for the Western Phase. The contractor is currently advancing on the south side of Santa Fe Drive, starting from Gardena Road and moving eastward towards Evergreen Drive.

The new concrete sidewalk and bike lane have been finished from Interstate-5 to the Nardo/Mackinnon Intersection, and on the east side of Mackinnon Avenue.

Currently, the contractor is focused on the area between the Nardo/Mackinnon and Bonita/Windsor Intersections. Here, they are demolishing the existing pavement and constructing new bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicle improvements. This includes protected bike lanes, a continuous concrete sidewalk, reverse-angle street parking, and dedicated bus stops.

Following the completion of this portion, the contractor will proceed eastward towards Evergreen Drive.

Traffic control measures are established along Santa Fe Drive.  For your safety, the safety of others, and for convenience, please adhere to all construction signage and be cognizant of lane shifting, speed drops and parking restrictions in the corridor.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project will focus on connection to schools and will improve mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicular traffic, while also improving safety and connectivity.  Improvements include the construction of new bike ways (separated where possible), new sidewalks, and the addition of a signalized pedestrian crossing near San Dieguito Academy (SDA) High School. The project will also construct new curb, gutter, AC berm and driveways. Drainage improvements at Bonita Drive will improve runoff capture and conveyance, and new bioretention cells will be constructed to improve water quality.

Permitting and right-of-way acquisitions were completed in Fall 2022.

City council awarded the construction contract to Tri-Group Construction and Development, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $4,150,000.

REVIEW PROCESS

Public Community Meetings for the Santa Fe Corridor project were held on Oct. 20, 2021 and March 25, 2021.  Materials from both public meetings can be found on the city's Engineering Public Notice Page.
