PROJECT STATUS

The project design is complete and was approved by City Council in May 2022.  Bids closed in late May and construction began in spring 2023 and will be completed in spring 2024.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project will retrofit roadway lighting and safety lighting luminaires located along high traffic volume corridors and at several traffic signal intersections in the City with new (Light Emitting Diode) LED technology.

The LED lighting will replace existing streetlighting on 2nd Street, Birmingham Drive, Highway 101, El Camino Real, Encinitas Boulevard, Garden View Road, Leucadia Boulevard, Mountain Vista Road, Olivenhain Road, Quail Gardens Drive, Santa Fe Drive, Via Cantebria, Village Park Way, Vulcan Avenue and San Elijo Avenue.

Implementing this type of technology will provide a more reliable source of light and the improved light levels will enhance visibility and clarity of the road and intersections while increasing safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

LED lighting technology uses less energy for the same amount of illumination and has a longer life cycle, reducing maintenance costs and the city’s carbon footprint.

This project aligns with the Community Planning vision of the Strategic Plan by maintaining safe and livable communities through well maintained infrastructure and facilities.
